Potter Accepts Difficult Reality After Chelsea’s Transfer Splurge Ahead of Liverpool Clash

Chelsea are continuing to splash the cash on signings in the January transfer window, with more expected after the club confirmed the signing of right winger Noni Madueke from Dutch club PSV Eindhoven.

Todd Boehly is aiming to rebuild the squad entirely and also build for the future, hence hiring a manager that agrees with his vision in Graham Potter, whom he paid £16m for to release from his Brighton contract after he sacked Thomas Tuchel.

Things have not gone all rosy under Potter and the manager has cast further doubt in the fans mind, by telling them to accept the reality that it may not yet work well despite the massive signings, as reported by Express.

Potter faces difficult Chelsea reality

Chelsea will travel to Anfield in the lunchtime kick-off to face fellow strugglers and ninth placed Liverpool, the two teams are tied on points and only separated by goal difference on the table.

Speaking ahead of the game as quoted by Sun UK, Potter tells Chelsea fans there is no guarantee the influx of signings will change the club's fortune.

“There is no guarantee that this is going to work. With every decision you go into you should have the humility to say we haven’t got all the answers. You’ve got to make the best educated guess you can and try to predict what may happen,” he said.

All of the signings are 23 years or younger and the former Brighton manager claims it is a risky adventure by the club.

“The players we have identified are young with quality. They are all starting their careers so they are all ambitious. They are not here to be fourth, they are here to win. So those are the upsides — but is there a life without risk? No.” he added.

Brighton reject Chelsea's offer for Caicedo

Even with Potter's warning and fears amongst fans the club could breach UEFA Financial Fair Play regulations, the club is unrelenting in their efforts to strengthen their squad.

They made an opening bid of £55m for Brighton midfielder Moises Caicedo, which was rejected and Blues fans reacted as earlier reported by Sports Brief.

The club is expected to return with an improved offer to try and tempt Potters former club into selling the 21 year old Ecuadorian defensive midfielder.
