  • Chelsea's injury woes continue and taint their win over Bournemouth on PL return
  • Reece James suffered a recurrence of his knee injury that made him miss the World Cup
  • Wesley Fofana who suffered a similar incident has now sent a message of support to James

The World Cup break came at the right time for Chelsea. Results were not going well and some halt in that momentum was needed. Injuries were also ravaging, and time was needed for recovery of star players.

However, the return of club football makes no difference, as all injured Chelsea stars are either still injured or suffer setbacks in their recovery. To add more to it, young striker Armando Broja suffered a season ending injury.

Wesley Fofana and Reece James suffered knee injuries a week to each other, in the double header against AC Milan in the Champions League in October.

Fofana was injured in a closed door game against Brentford as revealed by the Athletic, while James was injured in Chelsea's first league game against Brighton after the World Cup.

Fofana sends support to James

When the French defender joined Chelsea in the summer, he revealed James messaged him on Instagram, as reported by Sportskeeda, to come to Stamford Bridge so they can play together on the right side of the defence.

It has however not gone to plan as both have spent more time on the treatment bed than on the pitch, and with recurring injuries, they are set for more time together on the side-lines.

The former Leicester man sent a message to the English defender after he walked off injured last night. ''My bro, I am with you, stay strong. You will come back stronger.'' Fofana wrote on Instagram.

Potter backed by Chelsea owners

Sports Brief earlier reported that head coach Graham Potter has the backing of Chelsea owners despite a mixed start to life in the West London dugout.

The club lost three games on the bounce before the World Cup break, and the former Brighton coach reveals he met the owners during the break, and he is confident after the meeting.

Potter replaced fan favourite Thomas Tuchel and quickly turned things around, particularly in the Champions League where Chelsea edged out AC Milan as group winners.
