  • Chelsea boss Graham Potter is confident of saving Chelsea's season ahead of the English Premier League return
  • Potter met with one of Chelsea's owners during the World Cup break to discuss issues around the club
  • Chelsea's performance before the break was below par with the 2021 UCL winners languishing in eighth place

Graham Potter has expressed his satisfaction with the direction Chelsea is heading after meeting with one of the co-controlling owners during the winter break.

Potter will have an uphill task in resuscitating Chelsea's season with the Blues currently down to eighth place after a poor string of results before the World Cup break.

However, after meeting with Behdad Eghbali in California, the Chelsea boss has reiterated that he has adequate support to do what is required.

Potter took a trip to California, Los Angeles and San Francisco during the World Cup break where he met with Eghbali.

"We understand where we are, at the moment. We understand the challenges that we have, but that’s where we are in the journey at the moment. I’m even more confident now, even more, aware of the support I have now than I was three months ago when I was talking to them. That tells you something and I think it’s a credit to them, their support and how they’ve communicated with me. It’s been fantastic," Potter said as quoted by Chelsea's website.

The former Brighton boss took over from the sacked Thomas Tuchel in September. Despite a decent start to life in West London, things turned murky for him with Chelsea falling off the paces of a top-four finish, let alone becoming champions.

They restart their campaign with a home clash against Bournemouth before facing Nottingham Forrest over the weekend.

How Chelsea could line up against Bournemouth

Sports Brief has reported that the Premier League is back, and Chelsea are still struggling with injury crises, meaning Graham Potter may have to resort to a strange formation to cope with a string of matches on the horizon.

Talented right-back Reece James is back in action in some positive news for the Blues, with his return coming months after suffering an injury during the champions league game against AC Milan.

Potter recently confirmed James, who missed the World Cup for England, is back in full training and is eligible for selection.
