  • Havertz will hope to step up for the English club after a disappointing first half of the season

Footballers engage in charitable activities from time to time out of their lucrative salaries, and the festive period is one time they go all out to put smiles on the faces of the disabled and the needy.

Chelsea star Kai Havertz and his girlfriend Sophia Weber have taken their charity to the children's ward of St. Mary's Hospital in London, and distributed gifts including memorabilia and jerseys ahead of Christmas.

The 23-year-old recently returned to the club after appearing at the FIFA World Cup in Qatar with Germany.

His two goals against Costa Rica in the final game could not help his country, as the 2014 winners crashed out in the group stage.

Havertz donates to children's hospital

According to Spanish publication Marca, Havertz earns an estimated €16m per year after he transferred from Bayer Leverkusen to Chelsea in 2020.

He has now taken from his rich pockets to put smiles on faces during the Christmas period.

Chelsea confirmed their player's kind gesture through their Twitter account. The German was joined by his partner Weber, who moved to London with him when he signed for Chelsea.

He is spending time in London as the Premier League does not go on festive break, and could be in action for the Blues against Bournemouth on December 27.

Havertz promises all to Chelsea

Sports Brief earlier reported that Havertz vowed to give his all to Chelsea in the second half of the season, after putting the shameful World Cup outing behind him.

The German international has been underwhelming for the English side since he joined in 2020, even though he etched his name in history books by scoring a Champions League winning goal.

He is under his third manager at the Blues, having been signed by Chelsea legend Frank Lampard, playing his best football under compatriot Thomas Tuchel and currently adapting to Graham Potter.
