  • Chelsea were condemned to a 1-0 defeat during their Premier League meeting with Newcastle United
  • The defeat was the side's third straight loss in the EPL, having already lost to Brighton and league leaders Arsenal
  • This is the first time since 2015 the west Londoners have lost three consecutive Premier League fixtures
  • At the time, the Stamford Bridge dwellers suffered losses to West Ham, Liverpool and Stoke City under then-manager Jose Mourinho

Chelsea have broken an unwanted Premier League record following their humbling defeat at Newcastle United.

The Blues, who have recently hit a rough patch, were condemned to a 1-0 loss at St. James Park on Saturday, November 12.

Joe Willock's second-half goal was the only difference in the match as the hosts climbed to third in the Premier League standings.

Chelsea's defeat mean they have now won just two of their last eight matches under Graham Potter.

The woeful run of results now leaves the west Londoners languishing in eighth on the log, eight points adrift of the top four.

According to Mirror UK, the disappointing form has seen the Blues match an unwanted record that has stood for more than seven years.

This is the first time in seven years Chelsea have suffered three straight Premier League defeats.

The last time this happened was back in 2015 under the tutelage of Jose Mourinho, who went on to be sacked weeks later.

At the time, the 2021 Champions League winners were beaten by West Ham, Liverpool and Stoke City before they finally defeated Norwich to arrest that run.

Potter is now the first manager to match that unwanted record, having seen his side hammered at Brighton, lose to Arsenal and fall to defeat at Newcastle.

Fans want Potter sacked

Earlier, Sports Brief reported that a section of Chelsea fans has called on the club to sack Graham Potter as the manager following their latest defeat against Newcastle.

The Blues' support base took to social media shortly after their loss to the Magpies to call for the exit of the former Brighton boss.

One tweeted:

"Sack potter. Watching Chelsea is boring. Graham potter must go."

Another noted:

"Graham Potter - He seems out of his depth completely, doesn’t know his best players and can’t get the best out of what he has."
