Michy Batshuayi has come up with a hilarious reason for why he did not score for his current side Fenerbahce, during a Europa League clash against Dynamo Kyiv.

Batshuayi uploaded a picture of his torn boots on Twitter and tagged Adidas as he blamed the wardrobe malfunction for his misfortunes.

The former Chelsea striker has been on a hot streak of form in the Turkish League. He has five goals and one assist so far.

But against Dynamo Kyiv on Thursday night, the Belgian striker failed to get one past Georgiy Bushchan. Fenerbahce won the game nonetheless, with goals from Arda Guler and Willian Arao.

The 2-0 victory was enough to ensure the Turkish giants won group B ahead of French side Rennes. They have now automatically qualified for the quarter-finals of the completion and won't be subjected to the preliminary round.

Michy Batshuayi's social media post:

"Only reason why I didn't score tonight - help @adidasfootball," the striker posted on Twitter.

One fan reacted to the post by saying:

"Dear adidas, our football player couldn't score a goal today because of you, so you have to make a boot for him - bat pattern."

Another one took issue with Batshuayi himself:

"You couldn't score because you're not a good striker. Big teams didn't want you. At the beginning of the season, when you score an empty goal and a penalty kick, you do not become a scorer."

Batshuayi finally ended his on-and-off relationship with Chelsea by sealing a permanent transfer away from the club. The 29-year-old had spells at Borussia Dortmund, Crystal Palace, Besiktas and Valencia.

How other top guns fared

Sports Brief had earlier reported that Manchester United failed to usurp Real Sociedad at the top of Europa League Group E despite a 1-0 win in San Sebastian, as Arsenal secured their place in the last 16 on Thursday.

United now face a tricky playoff against one of the sides dropping down to the Europa League from the Champions League in February, with Barcelona and Juventus their potential opponents.

Roma won their showdown with Ludogorets Razgrad to progress to the playoff round, thanks to a second half fight-back in the Italian capital.
