  • The French defender has not had the impact he would have wished for after switching to the club on loan this summer

AS Monaco defender Malang Sarr endured a torrid evening on October 13, after he scored a horror own goal in a Europa League clash.

Sarr was in action for Monaco against Turkish opposition Trabzonspor at the Medical Park Arena. He lasted the entire 90 minutes as his side went 4-0 down.

With the game perfectly poised at 0-0, Monaco played a back pass back to their goalkeeper Alexander Nubel. With an opposition player closing in, Nubel quickly sent the ball out to Sarr.

Nubel's pass cannoned off Sarr

Unfortunately, the ball caught Sarr unawares and in a desperate attempt to get out of the way, the ball ricocheted off the French defender and went straight back into his net.

Sarr cut a frustrated figure as Trabzonspor players celebrated their opening goal. It went from bad to worse for Monaco in the second half, with further goals from Vitor Hugo, Enis Bardhi and former Aston Villa man David Trezeguet.

Sarr is currently on loan to Monaco from Premier League club Chelsea. His opportunities in the Chelsea side could have been limited this season following the club's acquisition of Marc Cucurella, Kalidou Koulibaly and Wesley Fofana.

The own goal comes at a time when he is not a regular member of Paul Clement's side. Monaco are currently third in their group and are staring at the prospect of dropping to the Conference League.

Mohammed Salisu scores own goal

Sports Brief had previously reported that Ghana defender Mohammed Salisu is having the worst start to the 2022/23 English Premier League season, after netting a bizarre own goal in the game between Southampton and Tottenham on August 6.

The 23-year-old turned a cross from Tottenham's Emerson Royal into his own net for Spurs to extend their lead after 62 minutes.

In a video posted on social media, the left-footed centre-back was late to react to a mistake in the middle before netting an own goal.
