  • Former Chelsea manager Thomas Tuchel was sacked by the club in September after a lowly start to the season
  • The German then recently turned down the chance to take over at Bayer Leverkusen, with Real Madrid legend Xabi Alonso landing the job
  • Reports now suggest the former Borussia Dortmund tactician would be open to replacing Gareth Southgate as England manager

Thomas Tuchel is exploring the possibility of becoming manager of the England national team in the near future.

This is according to reports from Germany, which claim the former Chelsea gaffer is open to switching to a national team role.

Tuchel was sacked by Chelsea a few weeks ago after 100 games in charge, being replaced almost immediately by Graham Potter.

According to established BILD German journalist Christian Falk, Tuchel, who recently turned down a job offer by Bayern Leverkusen, would take the chance to become manager of the Three Lions if the position opens up.

This would mean possibly replacing Gareth Southgate, who has come under increasing pressure in recent months.

England has endured a dismal run of results, which is not encouraging to see especially with the World Cup less than 40 days away.

The Three Lions are winless in their last six matches, but Southgate insists he is ready to see out his contract with the national team.

Ironically, bookies see Graham Potter, Tuchel’s replacement at Stamford Bridge, as the most likely candidate for the England job should Southgate step aside.

Tuchel has a very strong managerial CV under his belt however, having managed the likes of Dortmund, Paris Saint-Germain and Chelsea.

He famously won the Champions League in 2021 with the Blues, beating Manchester City in the final.

Thomas Tuchel spotted in India

Sports Brief also earlier reported on Tuchel’s whereabouts as the former Chelsea boss was spotted in India recently.

The German was spotted posing for photos with several fans who had Chelsea shirts and presumably fond memories of him at Stamford Bridge.

He left Chelsea having won four trophies, including the Champions League.
