Thiago Silva has become the most capped defender in the history of Brazil after making a record breaking appearance against Ghana in an international friendly last Friday.

The 38-year-old Chelsea centre-back played 45 minutes as the South Americans thumped Ghana 3-0 in Le Havre, France. Richarlison scored a brace to add to Marquinhos early header.

Silva broke the record set by former Bayern Munich and Inter Milan defender Lucio after making his 108th appearance in the Selacao jersey.

He joins Ronaldo, who also made history playing against Ghana, when he scored his 15th World Cup goal against the Africans at the 2006 tournament. He was the all time top scorer at the Mundial until Miroslav Klose equalled and broke the record, scoring against Ghana in 2014.

The former PSG and AC Milan star will captain the five-time world champions at the upcoming World Cup in Qatar.

Brazil will be hoping to reclaim the title they last won in 2002 at the tournament to be played in November and December.

Richarlison scores brace as Brazil beat Ghana

Earlier, Sports Brief reported that Richarlison netted a first half brace as Brazil cruised to victory against Ghana in their penultimate friendly ahead of the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar.

Paris Saint Germain defender Marquinhos opened the scoring after eight minutes to add to Richarlison double as the South Americans defeated Ghana in Le Havre.

The Selacaos got off to a bright start with Richarlison getting the first chance after just four minutes, but the Tottenham forward missed by inches wide.

Thiago Silva's wife spotted supporting her husband as Brazil beat Ghana

Wife of Brazil and Chelsea defender Thiago Silva, Belle, has been spotted in France as she supports her husband in the friendly against Ghana.

Brazil face the four times African champions as part of preparation ahead of the World Cup in Qatar later this year.

In photos posted on social media, Belle was in her Brazil jersey as he watched from the stands in Le Havre.
