  • English giants Chelsea have named Graham Potter as the club's new manager following Thomas Tuchel's sacking
  • The former Brighton and Hove Albion manager spent time at the beginning of his career with the Black Queens of Ghana
  • Graham Potter, after three decent seasons with Brighton and Hove Albion, joins Chelsea on a five-year deal

Chelsea's new manager, Graham Potter's rise in football could be traced to his early beginnings with the Ghana female national team.

The 47-year-old played a key role in the Black Queens World Cup participation in 2007, acting as the technical director of Ghana's female national team.

Following his ascendancy in football, it was ideal to look at how Graham Potter shaped Ghana's female football in the mid 2000's and the players he worked with.

The Black Queens struggled at the tournament, losing all three group games but stole some hearts with their beautiful style of play.

Graham Potter went on to manage several clubs including Ostersunds in Sweden, where he coached Ghanaian defender Patrick Kpozo.

Before moving to Brighton, he worked with Ghana captain Andre Ayew for a season.

“From my perspective he has been brilliant. He has applied himself in training, supported what we are trying to do and been very professional," Graham Potter said of the Ghanaian when he was joining Fenerbache.

“He has been a joy to work with and we wish him the best,” he added.

The last Ghanaian player to work with Graham Potter is Tariq Lamptey, who was given his big break by the English coach following his arrival at the Amex Park in 2020.
