  • Edouard Mendy did not have the best of games on Friday, July 29
  • The Blues cruised to a comfortable preseason friendly, but there were concerns from fans about Mendy’s performance
  • Thomas Tuchel’s side visit Everton in their first game of the season on August 6

Chelsea fans had one key concern after their friendly against Italian outfit Udinese on Friday, July 29.

The Blue singled out Senagalese goalkeeper Edouard Mendy as a player who looked like a shadow of his former self.

Mendy had a brilliant 2021/22 season with Chelsea, and his campaign had a delightful subplot as he won the Africa Cup of Nations with his national team.

The former Rennes man is known to be a force to reckon with in front of goal, but that was not the case on Friday, and it was quite evident.

There were glimpses that Mendy’s performances were subpar in the 4-0 defeat to Arsenal and despite bouncing back with a 3-1 win against Udinese, fans are still not convinced.

Notably, Mendy helped gift a goal to Udinese, which was slotted in by former Everton man Gerard Deulofeu.

To be fair to Mendy, the defending was also awful but a look at the goal will leave one wondering whether the keeper should have done better not to concede the goal.

“Unsettled Chelsea”

In the wake of the 4-0 defeat to Arsenal, Tuchel made some interesting comments regarding his side.

According to the gaffer, the key reason they were comprehensively outclassed by the Gunners was because his side were a bit unsettled as many stars were considering their immediate future.

"I saw a team in Arsenal who are mentally committed to a level of exhaustion that we could not match physically and mentally because we have a lot of players who are thinking about leaving and looking at their options," Tuchel told Football London.

The Blues will have to dust themselves up soon enough as the new season is less than a week away.

For their opener, Chelsea come up against Everton at Goodison Park.

Sterling gets maiden Chelsea goal

In other news, Sterling broke his goal-scoring duck for the Blues as Thomas Tuchel's charges wrap up their pre-season preparations for the upcoming season.

Raheem has featured in two of Chelsea's three pre-season games, firing blank in all two but needed just 37 minutes in his third appearance as the Blues posted a 3-1 win in their last pre-season match.

His goal contribution played a key role in Chelsea's 3-1 victory against Udinese Calcio at the Dacia Arena
