  • Mason Mount conjured some moment of magic to help Chelsea beat Club America in a pre-season friendly in the USA
  • Mount and Werner scored a goal a piece for Thomas Tuchel's side to see off the Mexican club, who pulled a goal back through a Reece James' own goal
  • Chelsea will continue with a number of friendlies lined up, including a clash with Premier League rivals Arsenal

Chelsea started their pre-season friendlies on the right footing with a 2-1 win over Club America at the Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas.

Timo Werner and Mason Mount scored on either side of a bizarre own goal from Reece James to put Chelsea on its way to a victory in their first of many friendlies in the United States to come.

Chelsea head coach Thomas Tuchel fielded two different starting eleven in either half. There was no space for new signings, Raheem Sterling and Kalidou Koulibaly. Koulibaly is, in fact, yet to undertake a training session with his new teammates after completing his move from Napoli on Saturday morning.

The English side were as expected, the dominant side with kai Havertz guilty of missing a glorious opportunity to put his side ahead after some wonderful work from Connor Gallagher. Gallagher, a Chelsea Academy graduate, is pushing for first-team action next season and put in a good account of himself in the first 45 minutes.

Goalless at the break, Tuchel changed his entire line-up. Timo Werner turned in a rebound shot to put Chelsea ahead in the 55 minute. That lead, however, didn't last after a defensive mixup from Cesar Azpilicueta and Greece James saw the latter slot the ball into his own net.

Chelsea had a couple of other opportunities through Mitchy Batshuayi and Christian Pulisic, but it was Mason Mount who came up with a moment of brilliance. The England international bent in a curler from outside of the box to score the winner seven minutes from time.

Kalidou Koulibaly calls Chelsea a big club in his first interview

Sports Brief had earlier reported that Kalidou Koulibaly had hailed Chelsea as a ‘big club’ in his very first sentiments after the Blues announced they have signed the Senegal international from Napoli.

Koulibaly, 31, signs a four-year deal at Stamford Bridge, bringing an end to his spell at Napoli, where he made 317 appearances.

His arrival to Chelsea will be a major boost for Thomas Tuchel’s side, who recently lost Antonio Rudiger to Real Madrid and Andreas Christensen, who has since joined Barcelona.
