Chelsea will have to pay a record-breaking fee for a defender if they are serious about signing Juventus defender, Matthijs de Ligt this summer.

The 22-year-old Netherlands defender has been a mainstay in the Old Ladies’ defense since joining Juventus for €75m in 2019 making him the most expensive defender in the Serie A.

Thomas Tuchel is looking for defensive reinforcements for the Blues after the departure of Antonio Rudiger and Andreas Christensen this summer following the expiration of both players’ contracts.

Chelsea are believed to have identified De Ligt as a top transfer target but must be willing to pay €120m to price the Dutch defender away from Juventus Sky Sports reports.

De Ligt still has two years on his current Juventus deal and Chelsea must have to pay his release clause before Juventus will consider releasing the Dutch defender from his contract.

Chelsea plan swap deal with Hakim Ziyech for Leeds winger Raphinha

Meanwhile, Chelsea are growing increasingly desperate in their pursuit to land Leeds winger, Raphinha this summer transfer window.

According to the Chelsea Chronicle, the Blues are looking to offer their star Hakim Ziyech to Leeds United as part of a deal to sign the 25-year-old Brazilian winger.

Chelsea co-owner Todd Boehly has personally looked into a move for Raphinha who is also being closely chased by London rivals Arsenal.

Earlier, Sports Brief reported Chelsea has received a major boost in the pursuit of their first summer signing of the Tod Boelhy era.

The Blues are looking to bolster their defence after the exit of Antonio Rudiger, who has since joined Spanish giants Real Madrid.

Thomas Tuchel’s side have been monitoring Lens ace Jonathan Clauss, and are now poised to sign him after the French side signed another right back.
