Despite officially losing the 'Champions of Europe' tag, Chelsea are in line to pocket a significant sum of money from Real Madrid's Champions League triumph over Liverpool.

Real Madrid sunk the Reds 1-0 in an epic final staged in Paris on Saturday night, May 28, to win the European title for the 14th time in their history.

Vinicius Jr's second-half goal in the final marred with chaos was the only difference in the tie as the La Liga giants broke Liverpool's hearts once more.

The encounter was a repeat of the 2018 Champions League final when Real came out on top to defeat the Premier League giants.

How Chelsea will bank significant windfall from Real's Champions League victory

Metro UK now reports that Chelsea, who exited the tournament in the last eight will be banking a significant windfall from Real Madrid's European glory.

According to the publication, the windfall originates from Eden Hazard's 2019 summer transfer to Santiago Bernabeu.

The Belgian playmaker sealed a dream move to the Bernabeu three years ago in a deal costing an initial £88.5m, but which included several add-ons that could take the full price to more than £130m.

The Blues are understood to have scooped nearly £20m when Hazard helped Real Madrid win La Liga and qualify for the Champions League in 2020, with The Sun claiming a similar sum will be heading to Stamford Bridge after Madrid’s Champions League success this season.

Carlo Ancelotti confirms that Eden Hazard will stay at Real Madrid

Earlier, Sports Brief reported Real Madrid head coach Carlo Ancelotti had confirmed that Eden Hazard will stay at the club this summer.

Hazard has been the subject of major transfer moves linking him with a return to the English Premier League.

Hazard joined Real Madrid from Chelsea in 2018 but has struggled to make an impact at Santiago Bernabeu.

Constant injuries have kept him out of the squad, and he has only made 65 appearances for the club.
