Others present included legendary coach Arsene Wenger, the head of African football Patrice Motsepe and retired striker Ronaldo in the conference held in Davos, Switzerland.

According to Goal, Mendy said that the two strikers were not only the best players in Africa but far and beyond.

They are true examples, role models and give hope to young people, making them desire to work and exceed the limits to achieve one goal. This is how football has impacted on social level in all countries around the world.

Mendy himself has had a remarkable rise to stardom. He joined Chelsea from Rennes in 2020 and went on to win the Champions League. He was subsequently voted as FIFA’s Best Goalkeeper of 2021.

He then helped his Senegal side to their maiden Africa Cup of Nations title this year. He has however been unlucky against Liverpool twice in the domestic cups after penalty shootout losses.

Mohamed Salah and Sadio Mane are currently preparing to face Real Madrid in the Champions League final. The two, together with Karim Benzema, are the front runners for this year’s Ballon d’Or award.
