  • Roman Abramovich was sanctioned by the UK government and the Russian billionaire has been forced to sell off his assets
  • The oligarch has been forced to sell Premier League club Chelsea following a £2.6billion takeover by US tycoon Todd Boehly
  • The future of the club, however, remains in doubt as reports say Abramovich has now rejected conditions imposed by the government

Following a fresh disagreement between Russian billionaire Roman Abramovich and the government, there are fears that the future of Premier League club Chelsea remains uncertain.

The club’s £2.6billion takeover by US tycoon Todd Boehly has been thrown into fresh crisis as Abramovich refuses to accept the conditions imposed by the UK Government.

Daily Star reports that Todd Boehly had fronted for a consortium and an agreement had been sealed for a takeover of the club after the sanctions on Abramovich in March.

The Times reports that the sale of the club is now under threat as the structure being proposed by the government has been rejected by the Russian oligarch.

Reports have it that the government has directed that all proceeds from the sale of the club go into a holding account and after it is satisfied, the funds can now be handed to a foundation assisting the victims of the war in Ukraine.

A Government source is quoted as telling the paper:

"There's quite serious concern in government that the deal may fall apart and that Roman Abramovich is ultimately willing to let Chelsea go under.
"There's alarm in government about the gap between what Abramovich has said he will do publicly and what he's willing to commit to legally as part of the sale process.
"There are pressing deadlines this week, and if there isn't a breakthrough, we're quite concerned that the sale of Chelsea could be timed out by certain sporting deadlines."

Todd Boehly vows to transform Chelsea

Meanwhile, Todd Boehly who is the new Chelsea owner, has reportedly concluded plans and readiness to transform the Premier League side by giving manager Tuchel a transfer war chest.

After being confirmed as the new owner of the Stamford Bridge side, the American billionaire was in attendance to watch the Blues' Premier League encounter against Wolves.

Todd Boehly is ready to spend big in the coming summer as he wants the Blues to parade the best legs next season in all competitions.

Nkunku on Chelsea’s radar

Sports Brief earlier reported that Chelsea are preparing themselves to bid for RB Leipzig’s duo of Cristopher Nkunku and Josko Gvardiol.

The Blues are getting ready for life under the new ownership of Todd Boehly. Nkunku has had a stellar campaign in Germany this season.

The French forward has recorded 35 goals and 20 assists across all competitions this season.
