  • Jose Mourinho believes Tammy Abraham will remain at Italian club AS Roma beyond this season despite calls from other clubs
  • The Portuguese manager has helped the England international rediscover his form as Abraham has netted 25 goals this season
  • Mourinho however admitted that he won’t stop the former Chelsea striker should he decide to join Arsenal

AS Roma manager Jose Mourinho has disclosed that he would not stop striker Tammy Abraham should the player decide to return to the English Premier League.

Abraham has been in scintillating form this season scoring 25 goals in 50 matches as he becomes the first-ever Roma player to achieve such a feat in their debut season.

The England international found the back of the net when he headed home in the 11th minute against Leicester City to book Roma their place in the Europa Conference League final.

Mirror reports that Arsenal are on the chase of the former Chelsea striker as Mikel Arteta remains desperate in bolstering his squad ahead of the coming season.

Jose Mourinho is particularly confident that Abraham will stay in Italy beyond the current campaign, but said that he won’t stop Abraham should he choose a move to Arsenal.

He told Sky Sports:

"I don’t think it’s an easy decision for a young, local player to leave his club, to leave his house, his city, his country, to leave the Premier League – which of course is a competition that, when a player is in it, it’s hard to leave.
"He made that option and I think he made it by trust in me, and I think in this moment, if he wants to go back to England – I don’t think he wants now – but if he wants to go back to England he just needs to click his fingers."
"I’m so happy for him, back to the national team, loved in Rome. I don’t want to say he’s proven everybody wrong, because I think everyone knows that he’s a good player.”

Mourinho speaks over Chelsea’s current situation

Sports Brief earlier reported that Portuguese manager Jose Mourinho has stated that Premier League club Chelsea have lost their excellence and stability in the wake of the takeover by Todd Boehly.

Former club owner Roman Abramovich was sanctioned by British authorities which consequently forced the Russian oligarch to sell the London club.

On the pitch of play, the Blues have struggled in recent times, although they look assured of a Champions League spot for the coming season.
