Premier League side Chelsea are now set to lose five big players in the summer including Antonio Rudiger and Azpilicueta after owner Roman Abramovich had his assets frozen by the UK government.

This latest development has now put a ban on new contracts at Chelsea with the likes of Rudiger, Azpilicueta, Andreas Christensen each have contracts that are set to expire in the summer.

According to the reports on UK Sun and The Times, Chelsea will not be able to keep these players in the summer due to the ban imposed on them.

Charly Musonda Jr will also depart at the end of the season when his contract expires.

The same applies to loanee Saul Niguez, with Chelsea no longer able to activate the option to buy clause they have for the midfielder.

Why did the UK government freeze Abramovich's assets?

Abramovich got his assets frozen due to Russia's invasion of Ukraine in which the United Kingdom and other world leaders are not happy about.

And being a Russian, UK government does not want Abramovich to owe any property in their country.

What is Chelsea's current position on the Premier League table?

After 26 games played so far this season, Chelsea are currently occupying third position on the Premier League table with 53 points.

Abramovich lays down urgent and big conditions before selling EPL giants Chelsea

Earlier, Sports Brief had reported how Roman Abramovich made it clear that those interested in buying the Stamford Bridge giants will have to invest in the Blues squad and pledge to redevelop the stadium.

These are the two conditions the Russian billionaire rolled out and he wants to see the green light before finally handing over the ownership of Premier League side Chelsea.

It is no longer news that Roman Abramovich wants to sell Chelsea, but the update Blues' fans around the world are waiting for is the announcement about the new owner or owners.

For the past 19 years, Russian billionaire Roman Abramovich has been controlling all activities at Chelsea and the Premier League club has won five topflight titles under him.
