Chelsea vs Tottenham: Ziyech, Silva Score as Blues Bounce Back to Winning Ways
- Chelsea vs Tottenham EPL meeting saw the Blues record their first win in five outings
- Goals from Ziyech and Thiago Silva were able to earn Thomas Tuchel's a comfortable win
- However, the west Londoners remain third on the log with 47 points, one behind Liverpool
Chelsea have bounced back to winning ways following their 2-0 thrilling win over rivals Tottenham Hotspur.
The Blues had gone four matches without a victory, with their last outing against Brighton ending in a 1-1 frustrating draw at Amex Stadium.
However, Thomas Tuchel's charges redeemed themselves during their meeting with Spurs at Stamford Bridge on Sunday, January 23, as they secured a crucial win and London bragging rights.
Hakim Ziyech and Thiago Silva netted a goal apiece in the second half of the clash to inspire the west Londoners to victory.
Thomas Tuchel rang a couple of changes to his team for the mouthwatering clash, with the German lining Chelsea up in an expansive 4-1-4-1 system.
However, even with the new formation, conviction eluded the European champions at first as they struggled to break Spurs' compact setup.
Romelu Lukaku had two glorious chances to score for the Blues but missed them on both occasions as the tie ended in a goalless draw at the break.
But upon the resumption of the second half, the Blues were eventually able to break the deadlock, with Ziyech firing home the opener with a stunner in the 47th minute.
The Moroccan should have made it 2-0 moments later but his rifle from 18 yards out was saved by Hugo Lloris.
Silva eventually doubled the advantage for Chelsea in the 55th minute, flicking the ball across Lloris to make it 2-0.
Efforts by Spurs to stage a comeback proved futile as the home side held firm to see out the rest of the match.
