  • Chelsea seem to have lost the spark that saw them exhibit some impressive performances early in the season
  • The Blues once again saw their slim title hopes continue to fade after a 1-1 draw against Brighton
  • Tuchel said after the game that his team looked tired and might need to take a break

Thomas Tuchel said his Chelsea side looked “tired” in the frustrating 1-1 draw against Brighton and Hove Albion on Tuesday, January 18.

The Blues might have taken a point from the Amex Staidum, but their performance was in many ways underwhelming as they blew their first half lead when Adam Webster scored a free header in the second period.

With their title hopes fast fading away, the draw against Brighton brought to perspective a painful statistic for the Stamford Bridge landlords – that they are winless in their last four league games.

Tuchel was once again asked about his side’s recent poor form and the German replied:

"I answered this question a hundred times, if you look at our situation of long-term injuries, of key players injured, and of Covid and you look at our schedule you will have the answer,”
"We are mentally tired and physically tired, you can see it in our performance, it's as easy as that. We need to recharge the batteries, we need to reconnect.

The gaffer also disclosed he would give his team two days off before resuming training on Friday to prepare for a blockbuster clash against Tottenham Hotspur on Sunday.

While he admitted that the draw against Brighton was frustrating, Tuchel said he could not blame his players.

"We have to respect the opponent - it's very tough to play at Brighton. They played it like a cup game and the noise at the end of the whistle was like if we lost the game and it can very easily give you the impression that we lost, but we didn't.

Werner's damning admission

Meanwhile, Timo Werner has expressed his appreciation to all Chelsea fans for their continuous support and motivation for him despite currently finding it difficult to hit the heights expected from him.

Werner recently explained that his expectation from Chelsea fans is totally different from what he is getting.

"Sometimes I don’t know why they are supporting me so much, because I’m a striker and I want to score but miss chances," Werner said.
