  • Romelu Lukaku will hope to end his six games without a goal when he leads Chelsea's attack against Malmo at Stamford Bridge
  • The Belgian last found the back of the net in the Blues' Champions League fixture against Zenit St Petersburg on September 14
  • Chelsea boss Thomas Tuchel however feels the player's goal drought could be attributed to mental fatigue

Chelsea boss Thomas Tuchel has claimed his striker Romelu Lukaku’s blunt spell in front of goal could be because of ‘mental tiredness’.

Tuchel claims Lukaku’s involvement in numerous football games in the last few months could be one of the reasons he is misfiring in front of goal.

After four goals in his first four games, Lukaku has found himself in somewhat of a rut, going goal less in his last six games.

He had to leave the Belgium camp early, and the FA revealed they allowed him to walk away because of ‘muscle fatigue’.

And the German-born tactician believes that his £97.5m man might be mentally fatigued during his press conference in a build up to Chelsea’s Champions League game on Tuesday, October 19 as reported by Sky Sport.

"In this moment I feel Romelu is a bit overplayed - I think he played too many competitions with the national team."
"It means a lot to him to play for his country. If it does not work well, he always puts it on his shoulders, he thinks about it, he reflects about it."

Tuchel also seemed to hint football stars were being ‘overworked’ amid talks to have the World Cup held every two years.

"They have a lot of weight to carry for their countries - they love it and they're competitors. But if you play 1,000 matches a year it can feel heavy."

Despite his concerns over the tiredness of players, Tuchel’s Chelsea is currently top of the table.

For their latest Premier League win, however, they will have their goalkeeper Edouard Mendy to thank as the former Rennes man was in inspired form against Brentford.

In all honesty, Chelsea were not at their best against Brentford, and their previous match against Southampton also needed two late goals to seal the win.

Chelsea legend brands Osimhen as Lukaku's heir

Legit.ng earlier reported that Nigerian striker Victor Osimhen has continued to attract positive reactions from the legends of the round leather game.

Chelsea icon Gianfranco Zola is the latest to shower encomiums on the forward who currently holds Africa's most expensive player tag.

A few days after scoring twice to help Napoli secure a draw in their Europa League opening group game, the 22-year-old found the back of the net again in their 4-0 triumph over Udinese on Monday, September 20.
