The Chelsea captain has been a key squad player for the Blues since he joined them nine years ago.

However, Goal reports the versatile defender is at loggerheads with Chelsea chiefs over a new deal at Stamford Bridge.

It is understood the west London club are keen to have Azpilicueta beyond this season, with talks over a renewal taking place.

The two parties are however yet to reach an agreement, with Chelsea said to be only willing to offer him a one year extension.

With a deal yet to be struck, Barca are hopeful they can eventually be able to convince the Spaniard to move to Camp Nou instead.

Xavi is desperate to add some quality and experience within his ranks and has identified Azpilicueta as an ideal candidate.

Azpilicueta joined Chelsea in 2012 from Marseille and has formed an important part of the club ever since.

Since his arrival, he has helped the Stamford Bridge dwellers win a string of trophies, including two EPL titles and the Champions League.
