Victor Wanyama is arguably the most recognizable export in the MLS as he has been an integral part of Club de Foot Montréal since he joined the club in 2020.

According to the salaries catalogue updated by the Major Soccer League) MLS Players Association on Thursday, October 21, Wanyama takes home a massive $200,000 (KSh 22,220,000) per month.

To put the figures into more context, Wanyama rakes in $50,000 (KSh 5.5 million) per week and $2,400,000 (Ksh 266,640,000) annually.

His annual guaranteed compensation can reach up to $3,091,667 (Ksh343,484,000).

A player’s compensation tends to be higher as it takes into account the base salary as well as all bonuses annualized over the player’s contract period.

Any marketing bonuses and agent fees annualized over the period of the contract is also taken into account while looking at a player’s guaranteed compensation.

From the catalogue accessed by TUKO.co.ke, Wanyama is the highest paid player at Montreal Impact, with his closes compatriot being Aljaž Struna who makes $91666(Ksh10,184,000) monthly.

Wanyama remains one of the most accomplished Kenyan football players of his time, and has the unique milestone of being the only Kenyan to have played in the Premier League.

Having played for Southampton from 2013 to 2016, he moved to Tottenham Hotspur where he was initially an integral part of Mauricio Pochettino’s side.

He however fell down the pecking order at Spurs and was sold to Montreal Impact in March 2020, where he has since signed a three-year deal.

Other Kenyans in MLS

Despite Wanyama being the most popular player in the American League, there are two other Kenyans who play in the MLS.

Kenyan midfielder Philip Mayaka currently plays for Colorado Rapids but was sent out on loan to Colorado Springs at the start of the season.

At the MLS, Mayaka, who was recently called up to the Harambee Stars squad for the World Cup qualifiers, earns $6781 (Ksh753,000) per month.

Another Kenyan is Nabi Kibunguchy who plays for Minnesota United but is currently on loan at Sacramento FC. He currently takes home $5295 (Ksh588,000) per month.

Wanyama is a new dad

It certainly helps that Wanyama makes a decent salary at the MLS as he recently became a father for the first time.

Wanyama’s long term partner Sera Teshna on Tuesday, October 19 took to social media to announce that she became a mother 40 days ago.

The actress shared the information via her Instagram in a well-choreographed video showing off her tummy.
