Wanyama donates hand sanitisers, foodstuffs to Mathare residents

Residents of Mathare slums have every reason to smile as tough economic times bite in the wake of the outbreak of the dreaded coronavirus.

This is after Harambee Stars skipper Victor Wanyama showing his kind side by donating foodstuffs and hand sanitisers to the residents in a bid to combat the spread of the virus.

Wanyama made the donation on Friday, March 27, through his foundation in partnership with a number of stakeholders including the Kenya Red Cross.

The former Spurs midfielder used the chance to send a message of support, stressing the importance of exercising caution as the government battles the pandemic.

"During this fight against coronavirus, it is important we as Kenyans to do our part to help its spread," he said in a video message published on the Victor Wanyama Foundation Twitter account.
"Make sure you follow the guidelines set out by the health officials. Do wash your hands thoroughly and distance yourself. If we all play our part, we will beat this," the footballers added.

Meanwhile, the spread of coronavirus has seen the former Southampton star wait a little longer in his bid to revive his football career following his recent move to the Major League Soccer.

The Kenyan international dumped Tottenham for Canada's Montreal Impact earlier this month, ending his nightmare spell with the London giants.

The midfielder significantly fell down the pecking order in the sunset months of his three-year stay at Spurs, forcing him to look elsewhere in search of more game time.
