Celta de Vigo have been given a big boost ahead of the new La Liga Santander season.

The club, which finished 11th in the standings last season, have tied down their star striker to a new contract.

As reported by Football Espana, Iago Aspas has renewed his contract with the club until the summer of 2025.

Aspas began his career at Celta and debuted for the first team in 2008. He has made 418 appearances for the club over the years, scoring 184 goals and notching up 63 assists.

Apart from brief spells at Liverpool and Sevilla, he has only played first-team football for Celta. He only made 15 appearances for The Reds and 25 for Sevilla.

During last season, the 34-year-old Aspal scored 18 goals and created six assists in La Liga, underlying his value to the team.

While not the biggest name in Spanish football, Aspas is tied for the most Zarra trophies along with David Villa.

What is a Zarra Trophy?

According to Wikipedia, a Zarra Trophy is awarded annually to the Spanish player with the highest goal total in La Liga at the end of the season. It is named after former Athletic Bilbao striker, Telmo Zarra and is awarded by the Spanish sports daily, Marca.
