Manchester United midfielder Casemiro has identified the club’s supporters as the element of his time at Old Trafford he will find hardest to leave behind, speaking ahead of a confirmed departure at the end of the current season.
“The fans, 100 per cent the fans,” Casemiro said during a Q&A session with supporters. “The affection they have for the club is what I will miss most.” The Brazilian went on to acknowledge the consistency of United’s fanbase, regardless of the team’s fortunes on the pitch. “Next game, they will be there supporting the players and the club,” he added.
The sentiments reflect a bond that has been visible in recent weeks. Following a victory over Aston Villa, sections of the Old Trafford crowd were heard chanting “one more year” — a direct appeal for Casemiro to extend his stay beyond the summer. The scenes underlined the affection supporters have developed for the midfielder, particularly given his resurgence in form during the current campaign.
Casemiro arrived at Manchester United in the summer of 2022 from Real Madrid, where he had established himself as one of the premier defensive midfielders in world football, winning five UEFA Champions League titles. His opening season at Old Trafford was largely considered a success, but his second year drew significant criticism as performances dipped markedly, prompting widespread debate over whether the club should move him on.
However, the 33-year-old has emphatically answered his detractors during the current campaign, recapturing the form and influence that made him one of the most coveted midfielders in Europe. He has contributed both defensively and in an attacking capacity, with a notable return of goals from set-piece situations adding to his value within Rúben Amorim‘s squad.
“I will carry Manchester United with me throughout my entire life,” Casemiro said, reflecting on the emotional weight of his four years at the club. He also recalled the impact of his first appearance at Old Trafford as a formative moment in his connection to the institution.
With his contract due to expire in June 2026, Casemiro will depart on a free transfer, bringing an end to an association that has spanned four seasons and encompassed the tenure of multiple managers. Despite the circumstances of his exit, the midfielder has indicated a desire to contribute meaningfully for the remainder of the campaign, with several months of competitive football still ahead.
His departure will leave United facing questions over midfield depth and leadership heading into what promises to be a significant summer of squad restructuring under Amorim. The club will need to identify a long-term solution in the holding midfield role that Casemiro has occupied, whether through internal development or investment in the transfer market.
For now, according to reports, Casemiro remains fully committed to United’s cause and is focused on producing further notable performances before his farewell becomes official at the end of the 2025-26 season.
