  • Cape Town City defender Terrence Mashego has been warned against joining Kaizer Chiefs by teammate Khanyisa Mayo
  • The 23-year-old has been strongly linked with a move to the Amakhosi as the squad undertakes a complete squad overhaul
  • Mayo is of the opinion that Mashego must look at the players who signed for the Naturena club but failed to sign as an example

Promising Cape Town City defender Terrence Mashego has been told to resist the temptation of joining Kaizer Chiefs ahead of next season.

The warning came from teammate Khanyisa Mayo as the rising star continues to be strongly linked to the Amakhosi following his outstanding performances for the Cityzens. He has become something of a mainstay in Hugo Broos' Bafana Bafana side as a result.

According to Sport24, a blunt Mayo said:

"My advice to Mashego would be, he knows what's best for him; look at what happened to players who went to Chiefs last season, and they didn't deliver. Putting on that Kaizer Chiefs jersey is pressure on its own.
"For example, whoever thought a quality player like Teboho Mokoena would sit in the stands? "As players, we have to understand that you need happiness first. Instead of just chasing after money, a player improves through playing."

City chairman John Comitis had firmly said days ago that Mashego was not for sale, as per Goal.

“I spoke to the player yesterday [Wednesday], and I asked him what was all this about. Because we have made it very clear that no player will be leaving the club this season because we are challenging for everything. And he is very much part of the family, he is very much committed to the club."

Ex Kaizer Chiefs and Bafana Bafana Defender David Kannemeyer slams Daniel Cardoso for controversial comments

Former Kaizer Chiefs defender Daniel Cardoso has earned the ire of players and supporters following his comments about the squad's culture during his seven-year stay there.

Speaking to Robert Marawa on 'Marawa Sports Worldwide', the 33-year-old made startling claims about the possible reasons as to why the Amakhosi are on the club's worst trophyless run in history, including alleging that some players would arrive at training sessions drunk, Sports Brief reported..

Another former Kaizer Chiefs defender David Kannemeyer is not happy with the manner Cardoso went about airing this dirty laundry, calling it careless and childish.
