  • Cape Town City have qualified for continental football next season but aren't sure which tournament they will compete in
  • Cape Town City currently occupy the second spot but could finish third depending on Royal AM and Orlando Pirates' results
  • Eric Tinkler has questioned why the Premier Soccer League season didn't need at the same time for all the clubs

The DStv Premiership season has come to an end for many clubs but there are still points up for grabs for others.

The staggered stop to the season was brought about due to Orlando Pirates’ participation in the CAF Confederation Cup, but Eric Tinkler isn’t happy about it.

The Cape Town City coach Eric Tinkler questioned why the Premier Soccer League (PSL) could not plan their fixtures better, as CAF had released their fixture list well in advance.

Tinkler believes that the PSL could have then ensured that no team was made to suffer a delayed season because of CAF commitments.

Orlando Pirates still have three games outstanding, one against Maritzburg United, one against Royal AM and the final one against SuperSport United. The results of those fixtures could still decide the top three positions in the DStv Premiership.

Cape Town City are currently in second place, nine points above Orlando Pirates and three points above Royal AM.

The Mother City team have officially qualified to compete in Africa next season, they confirmed on Twitter.

They don’t know as yet whether that will be in the CAF Champions League or the CAF Confederation Cup.

Only Royal AM Pirates can surpass them by winning all of their remaining games. With Pirates and Royal AM still having to take on each other, it’s impossible for both teams to pick up maximum points.

Stellenbosch FC currently occupies third place in the standings and are also unsure about whether they will be playing continental football next season.

Stellies need Royal AM to lose and Pirates to drop points in their other two fixtures to claim third place. With Pirates only due to end their season at the end of the month, there is still uncertainty about how the league will look at the end.

It’s this uncertainty that has upset Tinkler, KickOff reported.

"Unfortunately, we have to sit and see what happens around us to see exactly where we finish on the log table," Tinkler said.
"It's not right because everybody is supposed to play the last two fixtures at the same time and on the same day and that's not the case. Questions need to be asked why," he added.

"Are there rules for different fools?": Eric Tinkler questions why Kaizer Chiefs' matter is not yet resolved

Cape Town City coach, Eric Tinkler, has spoken about the current legal battle between Kaizer Chiefs and the Premier Soccer League (PSL).

Tinkler questioned why certain rules applied for certain teams, as his Cape Town City side are indirectly affected by the outcome of the ruling, Sports Brief earlier reported.

The arbitration ruling in Kaizer Chiefs’ favour meant that the PSL were ordered to reschedule the Amakhosi’s fixtures against Cape Town City and Golden Arrows. The PSL have now appealed that ruling, leaving Eric Tinkler’s side no clearer on whether they will receive the three points or have another fixture to play.
