Cape Town City chairman John Comitis has landed himself in hot water with the Premier Soccer League.

Comitis will have to appear before the PSL’s Disciplinary Committee on Friday, 29 April, after he was charged with bringing the game into disrepute.

PSL Prosecutor Zola Majavu confirmed that the Cape Town City chairman was charged for comments he made concerning the ruling that Kaizer Chiefs would replay their fixtures against Golden Arrows and Cape Town City, KickOff reported.

Comitis was very critical of the decision and made his feelings known in the media, saying that he was disappointed in how the matter was handled and questioned what happened to the rules governing the sport. However, Comitis also said he didn’t care about the points, but rather the integrity of the game, iDiski Times reported.

“The credibility of the league is at stake. It’s not about the three points, they can have the three points, it’s not going to change anything. I wonder if I give them the three points will they charge me? It’s going to make no difference to Kaizer Chiefs, nor to us,” Comitis said.

Cape Town City and Kaizer Chiefs’ fixture has been rescheduled to this coming weekend but the Mother City side are unsure whether the game will go ahead. Eric Tinkler’s side launched an appeal against playing the fixture, giving the PSL until today to respond. They have yet to receive any feedback about their application, Soccer Laduma reported.

The club are also hesitant to play the fixture, fearing that their players could incur injuries or suspensions in a game that might not count if the PSL win their case against the Amakhosi. Cape Town City are chasing second place in the league and are not taking any unnecessary chances.

Cape Town City have lodged an official protest against plans to reschedule their disputed fixture with Kaizer Chiefs. The two sides were due to meet in December last year, but a Covid-19 outbreak at the Amakhosi’s facilities meant they could not honour the game.

The Premier Soccer League (PSL) then charged them for that, but Chiefs approached the South African Football Association (SAFA) before the case could be heard, and an arbitration ruling was found in their favour.

The PSL were then ordered to reschedule the fixtures Kaizer Chiefs did not play; one against Golden Arrows and one against Cape Town City, Sports Brief earlier reported.
