RB Leipzig forward Christopher Nkunku is set to rival Cristiano Ronaldo when it comes to the best goal celebrations in world football.

Nkunku’s new goal celebration caught the attention of fans across the world, after he launched the act for the first time against Shakhtar Donetsk in the UEFA Champions League.

According to Give Me Sport, the French forward reached into his sock and pulled out a red balloon which he then blew up, placed in his mouth, and stood there with arms held out like Christ the Redeemer in front of the fans.

Nkunku has been one of European football’s most prolific goal-scorers in recent times, having registered 14 goals across all competitions for the Bundesliga giants.

The 24-year-old forward’s goal against Shakhtar was his 4th for RB Leipzig in the UEFA Champions League this season.

Chelsea closing in on Nkunku

Meanwhile, English Premier League giants Chelsea are close to agreeing a deal to sign RB Leipzig forward Christopher Nkunku, Sky Sports reports.

Chelsea are prepared to offer more than the release clause in advance of the summer, to ensure they get Nkunku ahead of the other interested clubs.

A £52.4 million release clause was included in the two-year contract extension that the France international signed earlier this year, extending it until 2026.

Earlier, Sports Brief reported RB Leipzig has extended the contract of their top-scoring French forward Christopher Nkunku until 2026.

The 24-year-old was in stellar form last season, banging in 35 goals, including 20 in the Bundesliga plus 19 assists in 50 matches in all competitions.

His performances earned him a debut in the France team last March and attracted interest from his former club Paris Saint-Germain and Manchester United.
