Borussia Dortmund CEO Denies Talks With Cristiano Ronaldo Over Transfer Move

• Borussia Dortmund have rejected reports that they have set their sights on making a late move for Manchester United striker Cristiano Ronaldo
• Ronaldo has a year left on his current contract with United, having penned a two-year deal with them when he returned last summer from Juventus
• He finished last season as United’s top scorer with 24 goals in all competitions but wants to play Champions League football this season

Chief Executive Officer of Borussia Dortmund chief Hans-Jochim Watzke has said that he has not contacted Cristiano Ronaldo’s agent Jorge Mendes over a move for the Manchester United forward.

Reports emanated in Germany that the Bundesliga giants have held a meeting over a prospective to sign the wantaway Portugal captain.

Ronaldo has made it clear he wants to play Champions League football this season, but several clubs including Chelsea and Bayern Munich rejected the chance to sign him.

And it appears Dortmund have joined the list of clubs that have turned down Ronaldo, if what Watzke said is anything to go by.

“I love this player, it’s certainly a charming idea – to see Cristiano play at Signal Iduna Park,” admitted Watzke.

“He's one of the greatest players the world has ever seen. But there is no contact at all between the parties and certainly no transfer either. So from now on, we should stop talking about it.”

Meanwhile, Sporting Lisbon are keen to re-sign their former prodigy, close to two decades after he left them.

The Portuguese giants are said to have made contact with Old Trafford chiefs with the view of signing Ronaldo if United terminate his lucrative contract.
