Beşiktaş are reportedly monitoring Super Eagles striker Tolu Arokodare as a primary transfer target for the upcoming summer window, according to reports, with the Istanbul club sensing a market opportunity created by Wolverhampton Wanderers’ precarious league position.
Arokodare, 25, only moved to Wolves last summer in a deal worth approximately £23.4 million, signing a contract that runs until 2029 with a club option for an additional year. Despite arriving with considerable pedigree — having claimed the Belgian Golden Boot with an impressive tally of 21 goals — his transition to English football has struggled to gain traction. The Nigerian international has managed just three goals across 27 appearances for Rob Edwards’ side this season.
Wolves currently sit bottom of the Premier League table and are facing imminent relegation to the Championship, a financial reality that could significantly alter their negotiating position. The club previously rejected a €15 million opening bid from Beşiktaş during the winter window and were holding out for over €26 million to recover their initial outlay. However, sources suggest that the economic consequences of dropping out of the top flight may compel Wolves to reconsider their valuation.
Beşiktaş are reportedly employing a dual strategy to persuade Arokodare to make the move to Turkey. Central to their approach is the striker’s existing relationship with South Korea international Oh Hyeon-gyu, with the Turkish club seeking to replicate the attacking partnership the pair developed during their time together at Belgian side Genk. The club’s hierarchy are believed to be using that prior chemistry as a key selling point in recruitment discussions.
In addition, Beşiktaş are said to be leveraging national connections within their squad to strengthen their case. Super Eagles midfielder Wilfred Ndidi, who currently serves as vice captain at the Istanbul club, could play an influential role in convincing his compatriot of the merits of a move to Turkey.
Should the transfer materialise, Arokodare would become the latest Nigerian striker to feature prominently in the Turkish Super Lig. Victor Osimhen, currently on loan at Galatasaray from Napoli, and Paul Onuachu at Trabzonspor have both established themselves as notable presences in the division, and the Festac-born forward would join that growing contingent of Nigerian target men in Turkey’s top flight.
Arokodare’s situation reflects a broader trend of Premier League clubs potentially offloading players signed at significant cost following relegation. With Wolves’ top-flight status hanging by a thread and the summer window approaching, Beşiktaş appear well-positioned to revisit their interest — this time with greater leverage on their side.
