Life as a professional footballer isn’t always as glamorous as it’s made out to be, especially for youngsters playing abroad.

Alphonso Davies recently spoke about the difficulties of playing in another country, especially when you don’t have a lot of friends or family around.

The Canadian international is far from home as he currently plies his trade with Bayern Munich in the German Bundesliga.

Arguably one of the best left-backs in football at the moment, Davies admitted that there was little to do when he wasn’t training or playing games for Bayern, Marca reported.

"Life as a professional footballer is very cool, no doubt. You can chill and enjoy life, but, after training, there's nothing to do.
“Because I don't have a family and my girlfriend is not living with me, I'm by myself,” he said.

He added that it was sometimes a little worrying not having anything to do, as the few friends he had all had work.

"I probably have like five friends. I'm a popular loser," Davies explained.

The 22-year-old started his professional career with Vancouver Whitecaps in Canada before moving to Germany to join Bayern.

He was only 18 years old at the time of his transfer to the Bundesliga giants, Transfermarkt reported.

Balde hates the spotlight

Davies isn't the only youngster who struggles with being a professional footballer.

Barcelona defender Alejandro Balde is not a big fan of the fame that comes with being a superstar footballer after witnessing his life change drastically, Sports Brief reported.

The 19-year-old rose to fame last season when he broke into Barcelona’s first team straight from the La Masia academy and has since been a mainstay in Xavi’s set-up.
