Why was Sommer thankful?

The keeper was grateful after de Ligt's goal-line clearance during the second leg last game against Paris Saint-Germain.

Sommer was caught on the ball, which presented Vitinha with an open net to score. The midfielder took a game shot at goal, but de Ligt made a last-ditch slide to clear the ball before it crossed the line, PSG Talk reported.

Munich went on to win the match 2-0 and therefore win the tie 3-0 on aggregate. They progressed to the quarter-final of the tournament and dumped the French champions out of the competition.

How Sommer showed his appreciation

To say 'thank you' for saving the goal, Sommer gifted the defender 700 kilograms of chocolate. De Ligt knew he couldn't eat all of the confection himself, so the duo found a better way to use it.

Sommer, de Ligt's sweet surprise

De Ligt and Sommer then donated the chocolate to Münchner Tafel, a charity based in Munich.

The donation came as a huge surprise to the charity, who only knew they were getting a donation from the Bundesliga champions but did not know what it was.

De Ligt's monster clearance

De Ligt pulled off a crucial goal-line clearance worthy of a last-minute goal as Bayern Munich saw off Paris Saint-Germain.

The Bavarians punched their UCL quarter-final ticket after beating PSG 3-0 to deepen the Parisians' European misery.

Sports Brief reported on de Ligt having to scramble back and make a clearance off the line after Sommer gave the ball away.
