Canada defender Alphonso Davies often makes players look silly with outrageous pieces of skill, but this time the victim is Belgium midfielder Youri Tielemans.

Belgium pipped Canada 1-0 thanks to Michy Batshuayi's first-half goal on Wednesday in a World Cup group F clash.

Thibaut Courtois proved to be one of the best goalkeepers in the world currently after he saved Davies' early penalty.

Leicester City midfielder Tielemans had the unenviable task of matching up Ghanaian-born Canadian speedster as his Belgium side aim to win their first major trophy in Qatar.

In one moment of astonishing skill, Davies absolutely destroyed him with one of the most brilliantly executed pieces of skill we’ve seen so far at this World Cup.

In a video posted on Twitter, it's safe to say Tielemans quite literally collapsed after Davies pulled out the skill.

However, Tielemans had the last laugh as his team defeated a Canada side playing their first World Cup match in 36 years.

How Belgium defeated Canada

Michy Batshuayi's first-half goal proved enough for a below-par Belgium to squeeze to a 1-0 win over a Canada side playing their first World Cup match for 36 years on Wednesday.

Belgium goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois saved Alphonso Davies' early penalty and Batshuayi opened the scoring against the run of play in the 44th minute.

John Herdman's Canada, roared on by their vocal support, also had another strong penalty appeal turned down and dominated the second half to no avail.

Davies happy with Canada call-up

Sports Brief earlier reported that Bayern Munich defender Alphonso Davies was excited when he was named in Canada's squad traveling to Qatar for the 2022 World Cup.

Head coach John Herdman named a 26-man roster on Sunday, and 22-year-old Davies was included in the Reds team for the tournament.

Davies took to Twitter to celebrate the announcement and urged his followers to believe in their dreams.
