  • Manuel Neuer is unlikely to return in time for Bayern Munich’s UEFA Champions League clash against Barcelona next week
  • The German goalkeeper has missed the Bavarians' last two matches through injury and is not expected to recover in time for the trip to Camp Nou
  • Bayern Munich tops Group C with 12 points from their first 4 games and needs just a point to knock Barcelona out of the Champions League

Barcelona has received a boost ahead of their crunch Champions League tie against Bayern Munich, following revelations that goalkeeper Manuel Neuer has been ruled out of the encounter.

The Catalans will hope to exploit Neuer’s absence from the Bayern squad as they know only a win against the Bavarians will keep their Champions League hopes alive.

According to Barca Universal, Bayern Munich manager Julian Nagelsmann confirmed Neuer, who still nurses an injury, might not be ready in time for the trip to Barcelona next week.

“Manu won’t play tomorrow, he’s still feeling some pain. It’s likely he will also miss the game against Barcelona. We’re aiming for him to return for the Mainz game. We will need to wait until his shoulder heals enough so that he can play.”

Neuer has played 13 matches across all competitions this term for Bayern Munich, and has kept six clean sheets in the process.

Neuer, Müller out for Bayern

Meanwhile, Thomas Müller and German goalkeeper Manuel Neuer will be unavailable for this weekend's Bundesliga match between Bayern Munich and Hoffenheim, Bulinews reports.

The Bundesliga champions will also have to manage without Lucas Hernandez, Leroy Sané and Bouna Sarr for the trip to Hoffenheim.

Hernandez is battling with a groin problem while Sane has failed to recover from a thigh injury. Sarr’s patella tendon injury has kept him out of this weekend’s Bundesliga game.

Neuer ruled out of Freiburg clash

Earlier, Sports Brief reported Manuel Neuer will miss his side's top-of-the-table clash with Bundesliga high-fliers Freiburg on Sunday due to ongoing problems with his shoulder.

Neuer missed Bayern's 4-2 Champions League win over Viktoria Plzen in midweek with a bruised shoulder, but had played every single minute of the league season so far.

Nagelsmann confirmed that he would once again be replaced by reserve keeper Sven Ulreich on Sunday.
