Bayern Munich defender, Matthijs de Ligt is still bemused by Cristiano Ronaldo’s work ethic despite his highly successful career as a professional footballer.

The 23-year-old Dutch defender was reflecting on his time in Italy with Serie A heavyweights Juventus where he played alongside Ronaldo for 2 seasons.

De Ligt has now disclosed that Ronaldo’s constant hunger for success despite already being a superstar was one of his biggest motivations to keep striving to be better SB Nation reports.

“I’m grateful and happy that I was able to play there for three years. Cristiano Ronaldo’s hunger particularly stood out. He’s won it all, multiple Ballons d’Or, five Champions Leagues, and every major league he’s played in but he’s still as hungry as a 19-year-old.”

Matthijs de Ligt won the Serie A title in his first season with Juventus with Cristiano Ronaldo leading the attack for the Italian giants before leaving to join Manchester United a season after.

Andrea Barzagli condemns De Ligt over dig aimed at Juventus

Meanwhile, former Juventus defender Andrea Barzagli has revealed that Matthijs de Ligt’s jibe at Juventus following his transfer to Bayern Munich this summer was ill-advised Juve FC reports.

The Dutch defender had suggested that Max Allegri’s side is lagging behind when it comes to work ethic as compared to the Bundesliga champions.
