Benjamin Pavard has bravely opened up about his battle with depression during the Coronavirus-induced lockdown in 2020.

The Bayern Munich defender joined a growing number of professional footballers to share their experience in dealing with depression.

Pavard, a member of France's 2018 World Cup winning squad, explained that the lockdown during the height of the pandemic took a toll on his mental health, and he became depressed without 'human contact'.

“In my head, things weren’t right. At the start, you say it’s nothing, that it will pass, but when you see that it persists and then you go to training and you don’t have a smile on your face, you have to react,” he told Le Parisien as quoted by GOAL.

“Like everyone else, I’m human, and even if I have a beautiful house with a gym, I needed human contact. I woke up in the mornings, I didn’t have an appetite. I tried to take care of myself, to cook, to watch TV series.
"I don’t like the word depression, but it was that. I hid it from everyone but today I feel a lot better. I came out of it all a better man. It changed me."

Pogba shares his battle with depression during Mourinho's rein as Man United boss

Earlier, Sports Brief reported that Paul Pogba has opened up about experiencing depression during when Jose Mourinho was in charge at Manchester United.

The Frenchman’s turbulent relationship with Mourinho made headlines in 2018 after he was twice stripped of vice-captaincy by the gaffer.

While speaking to the French newspaper Le Figaro, Pogba admitted he had experienced depression a few times in his career, but kept it under wraps mainly because of his high profile.
