  • Clement Lenglet played full 90 minutes in Barcelona’s 3-0 loss to Bayern Munich as they crash out of the Champions League
  • Thomas Muller, Leroy Sane and Jamal Musiala all found the back of the net in the game as the Catalans crash out to play in the Europa League
  • Fans are upset with Lenglet after he was pictured smiling with Robert Lewandowski right after the full-time of the encounter

Barcelona fans have slammed Clement Lenglet for his actions at full-time after Bayern Munich knocked the Catalan giants out of the Champions League, Marca reports.

The La Liga club were defeated 3-0 as they finish the group stage with just seven points from six games crashing out of the tournament to play in the Europa League.

Lenglet was in action for 90 minutes of the encounter, but the defender failed to protect his side as they were defeated at the Allainz Stadium.

While Robert Lewandowski failed to score in the match, Thomas Muller, Leroy Sane and Jamal Musiala all found the back of the net in the game.

Despite the frustrations, Lenglet was applauded for his performance on the night as he was initially left on the bench under ousted manager Ronald Koeman in their first two matches before Xavi decided to field him.

However, after the game, Lenglet was pictured with Lewandowski as they laughed together at full-time which did not go down well with Barcelona supporters.

What did Barcelona fans say?

Supporters did not feel it was an appropriate time for jokes. One wrote via Mirror:

"I understand Lewandowski smiling. After all Lenglet was one out of two players just watching as Muller scored from his cross. Why is Lenglet smiling though? out"

Another added:

"He's lucky I am not the Barcelona president because he'd not get on the plane back with the team, and tomorrow, I'd terminate his contract."

Lenglet has however taken to social media to respond to the criticism. He wrote on Instagram:

"About something that had just happened at that moment".
"It is a specific reaction that in no way reflects my feeling for the result," the 26-year-old said.
"My values are unquestionable and anyone who knows me knows my commitment and my love for my profession, for Barca and especially for its fans."

How Barcelona were knocked out of the Champions League

Meanwhile, Legit.ng earlier reported that La Liga giants Barcelona have been relegated to the Europa League following their elimination from the Champions League.

Barca dropped to the second-tier European competition after they suffered a 3-0 humiliating defeat in the hands of Bayern Munich at Allianz Arena in their final Group E match on Wednesday, December 8.

The Catalan side were in need of at least a win to secure their place in the last 16 of the competition following a disappointing campaign in the group stages, but they lost.
