- Coutinho has been widely linked with a stunning loan switch to Arsenal

- The Brazilian joined the Catalan side in January 2018 in a five year deal

- He has, however, failed to live up to his billing, scoring just 21 goals in over 75 appearances for Barca

Arsenal boss Unai Emery has revealed the club has not held any discussions with Barcelona over a proposed loan move for Philippe Coutinho.

Barcelona are said to be willing to offload Coutinho this summer and would consider allowing him leave on a season-long loan for a substantial fee in the region of £27.4m.

But reports in Spain contend the forward is not open to any loan move as he still wants to stay at Camp Nou to fight for a starting role.

Recently, the Brazilian star was linked with a sensational loan switch to the Emirates, with SunSport quoting Spanish new outlet Sport reporting that both clubs were expected to finalise the deal when they faced off on Sunday, August 4.

However, speaking after Arsenal’s 2-1 friendly defeat to Barca, Emery insisted no discussions have been held between the two clubs over the transfer of the former Liverpool hitman.

"We’ve never talked about Coutinho. He’s a splendid player, but we haven’t talked about Coutinho at any time," the Spaniard was quoted saying.

Coutinho was an unused substitute in the game which saw Luis Suarez score late to gift the Catalans a 2-1 win as they lifted the Joan Gamper Trophy.

Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang had given the visitors the lead before Ainsley Maitland-Niles directing the ball into his own net to earn Barca the equaliser.
