Barcelona legend who won many titles with Lionel Messi loses mother to COVID-19

Barcelona and Brazilian football legend Ronaldinho has reportedly lost his mother two months after the 71-year-old was tested positive for the deadly COVID-19.

Dona Miguelina is the name of Ronaldinho's mother and she was said to have passed on after failure in battle against the virus while in hospital.

When Ronaldinho was in prison due to fake passport issues he had, the Brazilian footballer used to talk about him missing his mother claiming that she was precious to him.

According to the report on Espana, they claimed that Peruvian national TV station America actually reported the demise of Ronaldinho's mother.

Ronaldinho made his career debut for Gremio, in 1998 and at the age of 20, he moved to Paris Saint-Germain in France before signing for Barcelona in 2003.

In his second season with Barcelona, he won his first FIFA World Player of the Year award as Barcelona won the 2004–05 La Liga title.

The season that followed is considered one of the best in his career as he was integral in Barcelona winning the 2005–06 UEFA Champions League beating Arsenal in the final.

Arsenal actually scored the first goal in the final despite playing with 10 men, but they conceded two goals in the second half which was a painful defeat for Wenger and his men.

Earlier, Legit.ng had reported how Lionel Messi took his free-kick haul to 55 following Barcelona's 2-1 win over Athletic Bilbao in the past weekend.

But despite his impressive number of goals from direct free-kicks, Messi is still behind several players in the list of top ten players who have scored directly from a set-piece.

The Barcelona captain ranks higher than his fiercest rival Cristiano Ronaldo in this department. The 33-year-old is ranked 11th among the best free-kick takers in the world.

Legrottaglie scored 66 free-kicks during his 21-year spell in the Argentine league playing only for Gimnasia and Esgrima between 1953 and 1974.

Ronaldinho's famous free-kick at the 2002 World Cup against England earned them a place in the semi finals.
