Former Barcelona President Opens Up On His Harrowing Ordeal In A Spanish Prison

Ex-Barcelona president Sandro Rosell has thrown light on his harrowing experience in prison.

The former Blaugrana chief was convicted of money laundering related to the sale of television rights for games involving the Selecao, the Brazil national team.

Rosell, who presided over the Catalan giants between 2010 and 2014, was also charged with forming part of a criminal organization.

The 58-year-old football administrator spent 645 days in prison back in 2017 and has finally opened up on his time in custody, per USA Today.

Sharing his experience behind bars, the former Nike executive in Brazil revealed he was given contraceptives and Vaseline upon entering prison.

"When you go to prison, they give you a bag of condoms and Vaseline [petroleum jelly]. I found out why," Rosell told MARCA.
He continued: "There are lots of homosexual relationships in prison, including for non-homosexual people."
"The prison is dull, a bit stinky but at times, you find lots of humanity in there. It's a clash of emotions, colours, sadness -- even smiles.

He even admitted to shedding uncontrollable tears at times.

"I've always tried to keep my head cool and before prison, I can't recall having cried. But there [in prison], I cried a few times like a baby."

Alves plays football in prison

In a related story, Sports Brief reported that Barcelona legend, Dani Alves has reportedly made his debut for a prison football team after his arrest over an alleged nightclub assault.

The Brazilian defender was arrested in Spain after being called in for questioning by Catalan police, following an official complaint from the woman involved.

Alves is being held at the Brians II prison in Spain, where he has reportedly shown his football skills to his co-prisoners.

Alves detained without bail

Dani Alves has been provisionally detained in prison without bail after being accused of assaulting a lady in a Barcelona nightclub in December 2022, Sports Brief reported.

The 39-year-old defender was arrested by Spanish police on Friday, January 20, and has been remanded in prison after being heard by a judge.

Alves will be confined to prison until the outcome of his trial is determined after public prosecutors asked the presiding judge for Alves to be held in custody without bail for the duration of their investigation.
