The 23-year-old star has a near-similar profile to Busquets as he operates as a deep-holding midfielder and possesses incredible vision and calmness on the ball.

Zubimendi would be a great addition to Xavi Hernandez's team, but Barcelona will have to find a way to beat Arsenal and Manchester United to the signing of the 23-year-old for that to happen.

Barcelona offer update on Carrasco

Meanwhile, Barcelona director of football Mateu Alemany has confirmed the Catalan club has not reached any agreement with Atletico Madrid for winger Yannick Carrasco, Football Espana reports.

Initial reports suggested an agreement was in place to grant Barcelona a buy option on Carrasco this summer as part of the deal that sent Memphis Depay to Atletico.

Barcelona had been linked to a prospective bid for the Belgian international, but they are now unlikely to make any new signings in the winter window due to the ongoing financial pressure at Camp Nou.

Barcelona sign new Argentina wonderkid

Earlier, Sports Brief reported Spanish giants Barcelona have completed the capture of Argentine teenager Lucas Roman from Ferro Carril.

The 18-year-old joined the Catalan giants in a deal worth 1.2 million euros and that includes a 400m buyout clause.

The promising left-footed attacking player is expected to slot into Barcelona's youth squad before being ushered into the first team.
