Dani Alves has been provisionally detained in prison without bail after being accused of assaulting a lady in a Barcelona nightclub in December 2022.

The 39-year-old defender was arrested by Spanish police on Friday, January 20, and has been remanded in prison after being heard by a judge.

Alves will be confined to prison until the outcome of his trial is determined after public prosecutors asked the presiding judge for Alves to be held in custody without bail for the duration of their investigation.

The former Barcelona and PSG defender has denied any allegations of wrongdoing since his arrest and he insists he has never invaded the space of the alleged victim.

Alves recently became the oldest Brazilian player to feature at a FIFA World Cup after representing Brazil at the 2022 tournament held in Qatar.

Alves faces up to 12years in prison

Meanwhile, Dani Alves could spend a maximum of 12 years in prison if the veteran Brazilian defender is found guilty of assaulting a lady following his arrest, Football Espana reports.

The latest amendment to the Spanish Penal Code states that the penalty for sexual assault that Alves would face would be one to four years, or four to 12 years, depending on the circumstances

Alves who is the most decorated footballer has seen his recent contract with Mexcian club Pumas terminated following the latest allegations against him.

Dani Alves’s contract terminated

Earlier, Sports Brief reported Mexican club, Pumas has terminated the contract of Brazil international Dani Alves following the latest scandal rocking the veteran defender.

The 39-year-old has been arrested in Spain after he was accused of assaulting a woman in a Barcelona nightclub in December 2022.

Pumas chairman Leopoldo Silva announced in a brief statement to the press on Friday, January 20 that the veteran Brazil international is no longer part of the club.
