Barca's finances played a role

While La Blaugrana were desperate to cash in on De Jong during the summer transfer window, La Liga's Financial Fair Play Rules (FFP) have changed their stance.

Reuters previously quoted President Joan Laporta, who said that they would be unable to sign any players in January due to the FFP.

Cruyff explained that FFP rules forced them to make decisions and change their stance.

A catch-22 situation

Barcelona find themselves in a tricky situation at present.

To make new signings in January, they will have to sell players. However, they are concerned that they won't be able to bring in new players if they don't raise enough funds.

De Jong blasts Barcelona management

The Frenkie de Jong and Barcelona saga continues.

De Jong is currently focused on international duty with the Netherlands at the World Cup, but took time to distance himself from a potential move to Manchester United.

The Barcelona midfielder was linked to a reunion with Erik ten Hag at Old Trafford in the summer transfer window, but he rejected the idea, Sports Brief reported.

De Jong survived sale attempts

De Jong's future at Barcelona was very uncertain during the recent transfer window, but the Dutch midfielder survived the cut.

Barcelona were desperate to sell de Jong, with Manchester United agreeing on a deal with the Spanish club for the player, Sports Brief reported earlier.

De Jong refused to join the English side, putting him at loggerheads with the coach and management at Barcelona.
