Her father, King Felipe VI was in Doha, Qatar to watch Spain's opening game against Costa Rica. After the game, he told Gavi that his daughter 'loved him' and in turn, the young footballer responded by sending her a signed shirt.

It is said that Princess Leonor is smitten with the 18-year-old. Football Espana reports that her school folder is filled with pictures of the Barcelona star.

Gavi and the Spanish heiress

Princess Leonor is formally known as the Princess of Asturias and is the heiress to the throne, given that she is the firstborn of King Felipe VI and Queen Letizia.

However, if Gavi and Princess Leonor were to become serious about their relationship in future and get married, then the Spanish midfielder might have to quit his football.

The royal family's rules and customs have a lot of activities and Gavi might not find time to play. Princess Leonor is younger than the Spanish star and reports have indicated that he has already gotten the nickname 'prince' from their supposed relationship.

Gavi in Qatar with Spain

Gavi has formed an exciting partnership with Pedri at the heart of Barcelona and Spain's midfield, with many alluding to them being a reincarnation of Xavi Hernandez and Andres Iniesta.

The young players are both part of La Roja's squad in Qatar, and will face Morocco in the Round of 16 after finishing second in their group.

Gavi made World Cup history

Sports Brief had earlier reported that Spain youngster Gavi made World Cup history, following his sensational performance against Costa Rica during their meeting on November 23.

The teenage sensation was part of Spain's starting XI during their Group E opener at the Al Thumama Stadium in Qatar.

The Barcelona star justified his inclusion in the match, as he found the back of the net in the second half of the match to help Spain get their campaign off a flying start.
