Barcelona will no longer wait till the end of the season before making a move to sign Argentine superstar and Paris Saint-Germain forward Lionel Messi.

The Catalans’ have openly stated their will to re-sign the 35-year-old who left the club last summer after Barcelona failed to renew his deal due to their poor financial situation.

According to Barca Universal, Barcelona will now make an audacious bid to sign Messi in January, six months before the expiration of his current PSG contract.

Barca will be operating on the 1:1 rule during the winter market, wherein the Spanish giants can reinvest every penny they earn into player signings as they fast-track their desire to sign Messi.

Barcelona were initially planning to swoop in for him at the end of the season and land him on a Bosman deal when he becomes a free agent following the expiration of his contract in France.

Messi could return to Barcelona

Meanwhile, 2010 World Cup winner and former Barcelona midfielder, Andreas Iniesta has hinted Lionel Messi could return to Barcelona sometime in the future, Goal reports.

Messi has been widely tipped to return to Barcelona when his deal with PSG runs out next summer and Iniesta is excited about the possibility of the Argentine’s return.

Iniesta and Messi were teammates at Barcelona for many years and won several trophies together at Camp Nou including four Champions League titles.

Fans cry for Lionel Messi’s return

Earlier, Sports Brief reported fans of Barcelona at Camp Nou chanted for ex-captain Lionel Messi as they watched their side suffer a second successive exit from the UEFA Champions League group stage.

The Blaugrana were crashed out of Europe's top-tier club competition at the first hurdle again after a disappointing campaign, which produced just one win in five outings.

The five-time Champions League winners had already been relegated to the Europa League prior to kick-off after Inter Milan demolished Viktoria Plzen in the group's other game on the same day.
