Barcelona are now facing the fallout of their El Clasico defeat to Real Madrid at Santiago Bernabeu, after it emerged club president Joan Laporta could be set for a fine by La Liga authorities.

According to Football Espana, the Barcelona president will be fined for the incident and could be banned between 4 and 10 games if found guilty by football authorities in Spain.

Laporta had questioned the match officials’ decision not to award Barcelona a penalty, after Robert Lewandowski was impeded in the Real Madrid 18-yard box. This was prior to Los Blancos’ own penalty being given.

Super League: Laporta doubles down

Meanwhile, Joan Laporta insists the Super League is the only way elite clubs such as Barcelona and Real Madrid can defend their interests. He made the comment to reporters before El Clasico, Yard Barker reports.

Currently, the legality of the Super League is being heard as a case by the European Supreme Court. If they rule in UEFA’s favour, it could result in punishment for all three of the clubs still involved.

Barcelona and Real Madrid are still championing the start of the Super League, despite threats by UEFA to sanction all clubs involved.

Laporta blames officials for defeat

Earlier, Sports Brief reported Barcelona coach Xavi has accepted his side’s loss to Real Madrid, but the club president hasn’t.

Joan Laporta was upset with the defeat, blaming referee José María Sánchez Martínez for the Blaugrana’s loss.

Laporta stormed into the referee’s room after the game to question some of the calls made by the officials. No information has been released as to what decisions Laporta questioned.
