  • Robert Lewandowski has held Barcelona defending responsible for dropping points in Wednesday night’s Champions League tie against Inter Milan
  • Lewandowski scored twice against the Italians but Barcelona needed a last-gasp equaliser to draw 3-3 against the Serie A giants
  • Barcelona risk failing to qualify from the Champions League group stage for consecutive seasons with the Catalans third in Group C with two games left

Barcelona’s hopes of reaching the UEFA Champions League round of 16 suffered a huge dent - and Robert Lewandowski is not happy about it.

The 33-year-old forward’s brace was not enough to secure all 3 points against Inter Milan, as the Catalans played a 3-3 draw against the Serie A giants at Camp Nou.

Lewandowski has now blamed Barcelona’s poor defending for the result. He believes they could have done better at preventing Inter Milan from scoring, Football Espana reports.

“We had so much desire to score that we forgot to defend. We tried to attack with more players so that one of us lost coverage. We scored three goals but we conceded the same. We feel disappointed not to have one.”

Barcelona currently has 4 points from 4 group games and could be eliminated from the Champions League next week, if Inter Milan defeats Viktoria Plzen on matchday 5.

Barcelona 'going nowhere' with defence

Barcelona’s Champions League ambitions are almost over and the Catalans’ defence has been shredded by fans, following their disastrous outing against Inter Milan.

The Spanish giants shipped in as many as seven goals in the Champions League last season, with Inter Milan scoring 4 in two games against Xavi’s team, Marca reports.

Barcelona has been hit by a series of injuries in recent weeks however, with Jules Kounde, Ronald Araujo, Andreas Christensen and Hector Bellerin all sidelined.

Barcelona fans roast coach Xavi

Earlier, Sports Brief reported fans of Barcelona have levelled the blame at head coach Xavi Hernandez, following his side's disappointing draw in the six-goal thriller against Inter Milan.

Xavi's Barcelona had to win against the Nerazzurri to avoid yet another Champions League group elimination in two successive seasons, after picking up just one win in three games.

Following the blast of the whistle, fans of the Blaugrana took to social media to register their displeasure with Xavi, as the six-time winners of the competition near an exit.
