Barcelona fans have criticised Lionel Messi after the Paris Saint-Germain forward 'liked' an Instagram post of Lautaro Martinez, following their disappointing draw against Inter Milan.

The Catalan giants played out to a 3-3 draw against the former Serie A champions at Spotify Camp Nou on Wednesday night.

The result leaves Xavi Hernandez's men teetering on the edges of failing to progress to the round of 16 - for the second season in succession.

The post caught the attention of his compatriot Messi, who was impressed with his performance in front of a crowd numbering over 80,000.

The Paris Saint-Germain forward expressed his admiration for Martinez by liking the post, as reported by Barca Universal.

Following Messi's reaction on Instagram, fans of Barcelona took to the photo and video-sharing service to register their displeasure with their former talisman.

What supporters had to say

@MiralAli03 believes Messi's reaction is more painful than the Inter Milan stalemate:

"Now that hurts more than the defeat..".

@7icky1Factos posted:

"Another proof that Messi does not feel sorry for Barcelona - a club who made him who he is today and then later he broke the club and ran away , he is such a shameless traitor"

@WasAraujoSZNN commented:

"Fraud. Don’t welcome him back".

@AraujoFachero doesn't want to see the return of Messi to the Catalan giants:

"What a shame, I hope he doesn't come back".

@Zuby blamed Joan Laporta for not extending Messi's contract:

"That's for Laporta for not doing enough for Messi to stay. You know about all these levers and you allowed the GOAT leave your club".

@JohanLa98 simply said Messi has betrayed Barcelona:

"Traitor".

How Barcelona can still qualify

The Blaugrana currently lie third on the Group C table, three points shy of the Milan-based club.

The Spanish giants will only advance to the next stage if they win against Bayern Munich and Viktoria Plzen, and hope the Italians drop points in their next two fixtures.

Fans blame Xavi for Barca's draw

Earlier, Sports Brief reported that fans of FC Barcelona have levelled the blame at head coach Xavi Hernandez, following his side's disappointing draw in the six-goal thriller against Inter Milan on Wednesday night.

Xavi's Barcelona had to win against the Nerazzurri to avoid yet another Champions League group elimination in two successive seasons, after picking up a single win in three games.

Frenchman Ousmane Dembele sent the fully-packed Camp Nou Stadium into delirium with the game's opener. However, a defiant Inter levelled the score just after recess before taking the lead twice - only to surrender it at the death.
